Government Incentives for Deep Tech and Startups in Portugal: Driving Disruptive Innovation

The Portuguese Government has announced a set of strategic incentives aimed at promoting the development of deep tech projects and startups with high potential for disruptive technological innovation. This system is designed to enhance the competitiveness, innovation, and internationalization of the most disruptive national companies, driving their growth and consolidation in the global market.

Voucher Go to EIC Accelerator: Support for Drafting the EIC Accelerator Application

The Voucher Go to EIC Accelerator is an initiative specifically designed to support the drafting of applications for the EIC Accelerator. With a total allocation of 1 million euros, this incentive aims to support Portuguese Deep Tech startups that have achieved a positive result in the initial phase of the EIC Accelerator (Step 1). This voucher offers a non-repayable financial support of 10,000 euros to cover the costs associated with submitting the application for Phase 2 (Step 2 – Full Application). By providing this support, the program intends to accelerate the journey of Deep Tech startups towards innovation and growth, facilitating access to European funding and new internationalization opportunities.

Voucher Deep Tech: Boosting Technological Maturity

The Voucher Deep Tech is an initiative aimed at advancing the technological maturity of Portuguese deep tech startups. With a total allocation of 2.5 million euros, this incentive is intended for companies that have received a favorable evaluation in Phase 1 of the EIC Accelerator (Step 1) and awards 60,000 euros in non-repayable support.

This support focuses on critical areas for startup development, such as:

  • Definition of strategy and management of Intellectual Property rights
  • Support for regulatory processes, including certification costs
  • Strategy and legal and negotiation support in investment processes
  • Technical and legal support for agreements with large companies
  • System-level prototyping and demonstration processes, with identification of industrial partners
  • Acquisition of product development services
  • Development of operational plans to integrate Environmental, Societal, and Governance (ESG) criteria
  • Support for headhunting and recruitment processes, as well as talent and HR management implementation
  • Market studies to support Go-to-Market strategies

Start from Knowledge: Connecting the Academic World to the Business World

The Start from Knowledge program aims to stimulate the creation of startups within the academic environment, with financial support of up to 30,000 euros. Managed by ANI in partnership with Startup Portugal, this initiative seeks to transfer the scientific and technological knowledge produced in Higher Education Institutions to the national business fabric, thereby promoting innovation and entrepreneurship from academia.
