Roadmap for the Decarbonization of the Wood Industries

The AIMMP (Association of Wood and Furniture Industries of Portugal) is leading the initiative “Roadmap for the Decarbonization of the Wood Industries”, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and position the sector as carbon negative—meaning it has the potential to absorb more carbon than it emits.
One of the key aspects of this roadmap is the active participation of companies, from assessing the current situation to co-developing decarbonization strategies through workshops and discussion groups. The wood sector is considered a crucial player in achieving Portugal’s national carbon neutrality goals by 2050, due to its capacity to absorb carbon and reduce emissions.
AIMMP’s Decarbwood project aims to engage 250 companies over two years, offering free carbon footprint assessments and identifying the best strategies for reducing emissions in the sector.
🔍 Assessment & Strategies
Participating companies will receive a detailed analysis of their CO₂ emissions, enabling them to implement tailored solutions to mitigate their environmental impact.
🤝 Collaboration & Innovation
The project promotes brainstorming sessions, workshops, and discussion groups, fostering collaborative solutions and the exchange of best practices among companies in the wood and furniture value chain.
🌱 Beyond Sustainability: Competitiveness
Decarbonization not only reduces environmental impact but also enhances the global competitiveness of companies, creating opportunities for sustainable growth.
📌 Commitment to Carbon Neutrality
Decarbwood is aligned with national and international climate commitments, reinforcing the key role of the wood sector in Portugal’s transition to a green and sustainable economy.
This project is aligned with Portugal’s international commitments and the objective of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, contributing to a greener and sustainable economy.
